Marija Star monastery+Banja Luka brewery Accompanied by a tourist guide and the only remaining monk, a tour of the Trappist monastery, which is special in many ways in the world! Together we visit the cathedral, the museum exhibition, as well as the monastery shops, where the widely known Trappist cheese and beer are sold. Trappist cheese was exported to all territories of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and beyond, i.e. throughout Europe. After a short break in production, Trappist cheese has been in production again since 2008. The secret recipe is known only to one Trappist, and to another it is passed down by word of mouth. These monks had a great influence on the development of the city, so near the monastery there is one of the oldest hydroelectric plants in the Balkans. Banja Luka Brewery inherits a tradition of more than 150 years. The monks started brewing beer, and you will hear more about that long history from our friendly guide. During the tour of the brewery, we will visit the brewery museum, where we will learn about the history of one of the rare factories that produced beer in the Balkans. Then, accompanied by a technologist, we learn about the ingredients needed to make the famous Banja Luka beer. We will also see the fermentation process, and finally what it looks like when the beer is bottled. Expect to try the beer too! After the meaningful tours, we will take you to one of the nearby restaurants, where you will have the opportunity to try many types of local dishes.
